Growing up with a stutter, life wasn't always easy for Chris Chan CA.

But when Chris connected with his Year 11 English tutor who showed him what true faith and encouragement looked like, he knew what he faced wasn't an insurmountable task - but a challenge to rise to.

"My tutor told me - 'Chris, you're stuttering right now, but what I see in your future is that you're going to be a great public speaker one day," says Chan.

In 2016, Chris realised his tutor's prediction when he was awarded CA Speaker of the Year.

"When I received the award the first person I told was my Year 11 English tutor", says Chris.

When I became a semi-finalist in Australian Ninja Warrior, the next morning, I sat down and reflected. Because in life, you don't get a lot of moments that you go, 'Wow, I've worked so hard on something, and it finally happened'.

After this, Chris took his goal setting to the next level by applying to compete in the Australian Ninja Warrior series. He was cast in season 2 and emerged a semi-finalist with a new appreciation for taking time to stop and reflect on one's achievements with a sense of pride and accomplishment.

"When I became a semi-finalist, the next morning, I sat down and reflected. Because in life, you don't get a lot of moments that you go, "Wow, I've worked so hard on something, and it finally happened," says Chris.

Today as Financial Controller at group fitness community Fitstop, Chris has married up his love of fitness, strength and strategy into one role.

"What accounting rewards you with is a career that can go on for the rest of your life and something that you enjoy and something that I can make a real difference in," says Chris.
