Benjamin Standfort

What are you studying?

Bachelor of Business and Commerce Majoring in Accounting.

Why did you want to become a CA Student Rep?

I had a friend at university who was a CA Representative, and he spoke highly of the role and his involvement on campus was something that I wanted to be apart of. On top of that the Chartered Accountants have a strong reputation in my mind for upholding the accounting standards making the company something that I aspired to work for and be associated with.

How do you want to make a difference in the world?

I believe strongly in transparency, I feel as though the role of an accountant delivering truthful orderly information in a timely manner can never be underestimated when considering the impact it can have on society. For me if I can uphold and work towards increasing the level of transparency and accountability in order to help with informed business decisions then I will be happy with the difference that I have made.

What you are interested in outside of Uni and work?

I've always been into the outdoors sport. I've ridden BMX for 7 years and did gymnastics for a long time before that. BMX is so unique it combines adrenaline, balance, calisthenics and dexterity in an environment that is completely unfiltered by rules. I also love a good trip to the snow with my sister at least once a year.

What was your fondest memory from university so far?

Meeting new people in the library and realising you're both stuck on the same accounting problem and then solving it together.

Tell me how you first got involved in with accounting/business, what inspired you?

My Father went back to uni in his 40's to become an accountant. What he has achieved as an accountant in the past 20 years is more than what I was expecting to do with my whole life, he has been a strong influence in my decision to purse accounting.
