What are you studying?
Accounting and Commercial Law.
How do you want to make a difference in the world?
I wish to make a difference in the world by working for companies who take corporate social responsibility seriously, and by influencing clients to do the same. I want to be the person who makes change in the world possible, whether it be through working for an environmental organisation, running charity events, or educating clients on how to do the same. By having a rewarding job, I can make a change in the world, and at the same time have the opportunity to assist clients to make a difference through sustainable issues and climate change, creating a ripple effect through many different organisations.
How would your friends, family or a colleague describe you?
I would be described as vibrant, energetic, ambitious, and some might even say funny. I love being social and spending time with friends and family, however, when I need to get work done, I am very focused driven.
If you had any advice for your fellow students about tackling university or preparing for the 'real' world, what would it be?
My advice to fellow students is don't be afraid of change. If you don't enjoy your degree, change it. If you aren't happy with your major, change it. You are in control of your future, it should excite you!
Tell me how you first got involved in with accounting/business, what inspired you?
I was always good at accounting and economics throughout school. However, I thought that to make a difference in the world, I would have to be the one in the lab, curing diseases. This lead me to complete first year Biomedical Sciences. Right from the start, something didn't seem right. I realised, I wasn't learning to understand, but was learning to pass the next exam. Reflecting on my schooling career, I knew I enjoyed accounting, and that's when I realised that to make a difference, I didn't have to be the one behind the microscope. I could be the person who made it all possible. I could join a company where my ideas and innovation would make a difference. This drove my change to a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Accounting and Commercial Law. This decision resulted in me finding my niche. I am learning about things that I am passionate about, I am interested in the topics and most importantly, I feel like I can make a difference to the world around me.
