What are you studying?

Commerce/Law - Major in Accounting.

How do you want to make a difference in the world?

I want to make a difference in the world by contributing to a healthy and happy workplace. From my personal work experience, I have been able to witness how important it is to be in a work place where you feel included and wanted. Therefore, my goal throughout my entire career is to always ensure the employees around me enjoy their workplace environment and are never discriminated against. This involves standing up for someone in an adverse situation or simply asking how someone is. I know I work best when I feel included and so I will do everything in my power to make sure everyone around me feels the same everyday.

How would your friends, family or a colleague describe you?

Other people would describe me as humorous and laid back. I am always the one to lighten the mood and make the best out of a situation. I truly believe laughter is the best medicine and will always try to crack a joke to engage people. I am also a happy and bubbly person making me a very approachable person to talk to at anytime.

What you are interested in outside of Uni and work?

Outside of university and work I like to play and coach many sports. I was previously a National Level Golfer having played in countries such as USA, Canada and China. I now play golf socially at the Lakes and Australian Golf Clubs. I also have a strong passion for netball. I thoroughly enjoy coaching my many netball teams as it allows me to develop teaching skills while also helping me keep up to date with whats trendy.

Tell me how you first got involved in with accounting/business, what inspired you?

I first got involved in accounting/business when someone gave a talk at my school regarding a Co-op scholarship. The way the person described accounting really opened my eyes and allowed me to see how accounting is not just in accounting firms but also in large corporate businesses. From that day on I saw how important understanding the underlying fundamentals of a businesses finance are in order to truly see how a business is doing and make decisions accordingly. This really inspired me because it showed me how I would be able to make a change in a company and the world as a whole.

What do you wish other people knew about studying business/accounting?

I wish people knew that business and accounting is such a diverse degree and that they have so many career opportunities. By studying business, you really get to develop a true understanding of how a business runs and what it takes for a business to be successful. The accounting profession is hugely underrated by many students as they do not understand that accountants are the people who make many of the strategic decisions of the business and ensure that there is enough funds to continue the business.

I want you to know that there are so many different ways that you can apply accounting into your career such as being at large brands such as Coca-Cola as well as being able to travel overseas. I wish that the preconceptions of accounting would disappear and people could see the true excitement of what accounting really is.
