What are you studying?
Bachelor of Business Anaylsis majoring in Accounting and Strategic Management.
How do you want to make a difference in the world?
My perspective of trying to make a difference in the world is very simple. I believe we don’t realise how lucky we are sitting in a safe and secure environment with all the necessities around us. We should be grateful and make the most of our education, instead I see kids who have all the provisions that are mistreating school propertys and teachers. If all the future kids would use the education facilities wisely and become educated maybe as a whole we could all stand up together and rise to other important issues in the world but first we have to educate ourselves and learn to be grateful.
How would your friends, family or a colleague describe you?
A bright individual whom aspires to do better for herself and others. Always smiling and shaping herself into any enviroment while making an impact on whoever she interacts with. She has an amazing kind soul which is always there for her loved ones, ready to listen anytime of the day.
What you are interested in outside of Uni and work?
BHANGRA ! Its a type of dance originated from Punjab (north part of india) I love dancing ! It makes me happy and stress free. We have our own bhangra team located in hamilton. Its called the Waikato Bhangra Club. We love creating new moves, making sound tracks and performing at events. Besides dancing my second passion would be travelling, I one day hope to cover all the countries on my bucket list.
Tell me how you first got involved in with accounting/business, what inspired you?
To be honest when I first started off my degree I didn’t even know where I was going with it. I just choose to study a bachelor of business analysis and major in accounting. In my first year, I was just so confused and thought have I even made the right decision. I wasn’t aware of the endless opportunities that studying accounting could lead me to. I’m in my second year now, and it was only just last year when I started seeing the role of accountants and how much of an impact they have in today’s world. Now I have goals and a career in mind that I one day hope to achieve. I just can’t wait to enter the business world after I graduate.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about studying business/accounting?
People just assume if you study accounting you must be smart at maths but don't let that frighten you. If you're not that great at maths that's ok. Let me tell you maths was my least favourite subject when I was in high school. Accounting is more about learning about financial statements and recording companies' financial transactions. And don't stress because even accountants use calculators for working out calculations. Another reason people get put off accounting is because they think it's not a people friendly career. That is the wrong interpretation of accounting. On many occasions you meet your tax client's year after year, cry and laugh with them and usually watch their kids grow. You are usually dealing with educated professionals who understand business.
